Education Abroad Scholarships
There are many scholarships available to support study abroad. UNC study abroad students have been awarded scholarships from the U.S. Government, foreign governments, and private foundations. Additionally, UNC offers scholarships for students participating on approved UNC study abroad programs.
The key is to plan ahead and begin researching now the array of study abroad scholarships. Be sure to note their application deadlines, eligibility requirements, and amounts. Scholarships may be specific to your program destination, field of study, program length, and foreign language of study. In addition to browsing the scholarships included on this site, be sure to ask your third-party program provider about their own scholarships available to students.

Fund for Education Abroad
- Awards U.S. undergraduate students who present financial need and are underrepresented among the U.S. Study Abroad population. Awards vary from $1,250 to $10,000.
- Deadline: February
Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship
- Provide $1,000 scholarship and a Tortuga travel backpack to U.S. undergraduate students who are full-time at a 4-year university.
- Deadline: April and November

IEE Generation Study Abroad: Funding
“IIE Generation Study Abroad Travel Grants were made available for U.S. students from a broad range of backgrounds to make it possible for them to participate in academic, internship or service-learning experiences abroad Travel Grants can be used not only for travel to and from the country of study, but also within the region, enabling students to make the most of their international experience.”
National Society of Collegiate Scholars Scholarship
NSCS is an honors organization that recognizes and elevates high-achieving students.
NSCS provides career and graduate school connections, leadership and service opportunities,
and gives out more than $500,000 annually in scholarships, awards, and chapter funds.
The Institute of International Education
IIE manages more than 200 programs with participants from more than 180 countries. In the last year alone, more than 29,000 people participated in IIE managed programs. Use our program finder to explore opportunities.
Diversity Abroad
Diversity Abroad, in cooperation with the AIFS Foundation, will offer $500 scholarships for fall and spring semesters as well as summer term. Five scholarships are available for each semester and two scholarships are available for summer.
